Prop 8 in the Supreme Court: The Church Weighs In

The United States Supreme Court has agreed to hear the appeal of the Ninth Circuit’s decision in Hollingsworth v. Perry, generally known as the Prop 8 case. Briefing is underway and the supporters of Prop 8 (the folks at “ProtectMarriage.com”) have filed their opening brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn the Ninth Circuit’s ruling. A number of other organizations and individuals who are not parties to the case (including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) have filed amicus briefs requesting the same result. The briefs of those opposing Prop 8 (and supporting the Ninth Circuit’s ruling) will be due February 21.
